Subject: Contaminated Washwater
- NPDES AR0001210
Ms. Roberts,
As we discussed a
few minutes ago by phone, a spill occurred late yesterday during the process
of unloading a railcar containing methanol to the
appropriate storage tank. The spilled material (methanol) was
contained within the concrete containment
sump; however it was diluted by existing washwater within the sump.
The spilled material was further diluted when plant personnel washed spill residue in to the sump; thus
creating a volume of contaminated washwater with methanol.
This note
serves as a courtesy notification to let you know we plan to treat the
contaminated washwater onsite via our wastewater treatment system. The
amount of methanol spilled was approximately
1500 lbs, well below the 5000 lb RQ threshold. The material is "characteristically like" other
wash waters we treat on a routine basis. The washwater will be sewered and
treated in a routine manner.
If you have any
questions or concerns, please feel free to give me a call at
870-305-5107.
Sincerely,
Jim
